10 Tips and Remedies to Heal Acne

Remedies to heal acne include prescription medications such as antibiotics, bactericides, retinoids and a newer treatment using light. There are also a number of things that you can do at home to help these medications to work and to control flare ups and inflammation.

Acne is primarily a condition suffered by adolescents but can also last well into the 20s or even the early 30th. It is caused by an increased production of sebum which blocks the pores and also attracts dirt and dust. This makes a good environment for the bacteria that cause acne to thrive. Acne can occur on the face and also on the chest, the arms and back. It is a distressing condition that causes pain and embarrassment.

Over the counter remedies to heal acne often include benzoyl peroxide. This ingredient works by creating oxygen deep within the skin which inhibits the bacteria. Acne can become very severe if left untreated and can result in scarring. Always see a dermatologist or other medical practitioner if you have acne who can prescribe the most suitable course of treatment.

Remedies to heal acne work by a combination of the following :

1.Killing the bacteria that cause the acne
2.Reducing inflammation
3.Preventing the pores from being blocked
4.Changing the hormone levels

Over The Counter Remedies

Over-the-counter remedies for acne that contain benzoyl peroxide are suitable if you have mild to moderate acne. They usually contain between two and 10% of the active ingredient. Some side effects include irritation, redness and dryness. Unlike antibiotics however they do not cause of resistance in the bacteria. Other ingredients that you may find include chlorhexidine gluconate and triclosan which, although they are less effective than benzoyl chloride, are mild and do not have as many side effects.

There are also remedies to heal acne you can try at home and we have described some of them here. None of these will cure your acne overnight but they should help to control flares and improve your skin over a few weeks.

1. Wash your face twice a day with a sulfur based soap. Make sure your wash cloth is not harsh or this was further irritation to the skin. Use a clean wash cloth every day and boil regularly to kill the bacteria that cause acne. Always be gentle and do not scrub the skin as this will stimulate production of sebum.

2. Once a week used a honey mask. Honey is a powerful bactericide and very gentle on the skin it would also help moisturize.

3. Eat foods that are rich in vitamin A which is essential for healthy skin it also helps to reduce sebum production and is an anti-oxidant.

4. Ensure your diet is adequate in nutrients vitamins and minerals. It is a good idea to take a multivitamin daily.

5. A chromium supplements helps to heal for and prevent any flare ups.

6. If you wear make up make sure it is water based and not oil-based which will clog up the pores.

7. Drink at least eight glasses of water every day.

8. Do not squeeze pimples or blackheads and breaking the membranes around them causes the bacteria to be spread out under the skin and causes more outbreaks.

9. When you sleep at night you rub your face against the pillowcase and oil and dirt are transferred. The oil and the then transfer back onto your face. To avoid this change the pillowcase at least every other day.

10. Always avoid touching your face and wash your hair every other day to avoid grease and dirt from your hair being transferred onto your face.

Carefully follow these tips and you should see a good improvement in your acne over the following weeks.
